Getting to know… Leanne

Welcome to ‘Getting to know…’ number 22. This week we are getting to know Leanne and I have to admit I am loving her pre-race fuel. I might even try it myself!

Also, if you have missed any of the previous interviews, you can find them here.

Set your sights on something, and just have a go, and keep moving forwards. @whatleanneran Click To Tweet

How long have you been running?

It’s probably fair to say sheer stubbornness. I seem to recall someone telling me I couldn’t/wouldn’t be able to run 5km and I wasn’t having that!

What made you start running?

For two reasons – my own head (for my sanity but also to challenge myself) and to help others (my favourite part about running, and being a run leader, is that I can support and encourage others to achieve things they perhaps didn’t think they could!)

Why do you run now?

It’s probably fair to say sheer stubbornness. I seem to recall someone telling me I couldn’t/wouldn’t be able to run 5km and I wasn’t having that!

What was your last event?

Salcey Forest challenge yesterday (24th September), it was a 6 hour challenge where you could run as much or as little as you like. I ran a marathon in 4:39:29, and it was a 10+ minute PB!

What is your next event?

I’m not giving myself much rest, I’ve got a trail half marathon on Sunday! (27th September)

Favourite thing about running?

It has to be the headspace but also exploring new places.

Worst thing about running?

I’m really not about the ‘competition’, more the taking part and having a go, so I really don’t like the attitude some runners and clubs have.

@Whatleanneran

What one piece of advice would you give to a beginner?

Set your sights on something, and just have a go, and keep moving forwards.

Best piece of advice given to you?

Keep smiling and keep moving (it does feel just a little bit easier if you smile!)

Favourite race distance?

I love an ultramarathon because it’s like a moving picnic.. but then I love to really push on a 5 or 10km.

Funniest thing that has ever happened to you whilst running?

I ran straight into a tree a few weeks ago and I still have no idea how I didn’t see it!

Most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you whilst running?

Running straight into a tree!

On average, how many miles do you run per month?

I usually hit between 100-120 miles every month

Do you belong to a running club?

I do! I’m part of Kettering Town Harriers, Lonely Goat Running Club and I also helped establish a local running group ‘Harborough Social Runners’

Do you do any other forms of exercise in addition to running?

I’ve recently dabbled in open water swimming and cycling… Can you guess what challenge is on the cards for 2021 or 2022?!

Favourite pre-race/pre-long run meal?

Chinese takeaway and half a bottle of wine – it might not be conventional but I’m almost guaranteed a PB on that!

Favourite post-run meal?

I love a pasta bake or fajitas

Do you have any superstition?

Nope

What is your biggest achievement sport wise?

It has to be my 100km at Race to the Stones last year. I never thought I’d be able to cover that distance on foot.

If you were granted one wish related to running, what would it be?

To be able to run forever, no matter what!
