Race Recap – Rockingham 10

So far this Autumn I have had 2 DNS, and very erratic training! Great preparation for taking on Rockingham10 – NOT. To be honest, I was very close to DNS-ing this race too, as I have been battling a cold all week! The race is our club championship race, so I knew there would be a lot of my team mates from run club, so decided just to have a go! Date: Sunday 6th November 2016 Time: 1pm Weather: The morning was cold but bright sunshine and I thought there was the potential of a nice crisp run. Oh how wrong […]

#IAmTeamGB

As always the Olympics has inspired the nation and today the entire nation was invited to take part in events across the UK the celebrate the success of TeamGB. Some of the Olympians actually attended events put on. I am currently in Scotland, so did a little bit of Parkrun tourism.  I spend a lot of time in Dundee visiting family, so can’t believe I haven’t run the Camperdown Parkrun before today. The park is such a lovely setting, although I was slightly apprehensive about the hills before starting. 5k’s are hard enough without trying to run uphill too! The […]

Race Recap – Endure 24

I honestly do not know where to start with this race report, apart from saying this race is EPIC! I’m not sure my words are really going to be able to capture the entire weekend, so expect lots of pictures! View this post on Instagram On my way, – had actually just stopped for beers 😂 #endure24 A post shared by Ruth – Runner 🇬🇧 (@rularuns) on Jun 18, 2016 at 4:54am PDT If you have never heard of it before the basics are; the race starts at 12 noon on the Saturday and finishes at 12 noon on the […]

Race Recap – Bedford 10K

After my PB at the Vitality 10K last Monday (Read about it here) , I signed up to the Bedford 10k the next day. I knew some of my club mates were doing it and I thought, why not!?? Why not? Did I really just say, why not? Do I not remember how hard it was last Monday!? Is it like childbirth? When all the euphoria kicks in, the pain of the event vanishes!! Date: Sunday 5th June 2016 Time: 9am Weather: Cold before the start, and although overcast for the entire race, it was quite a nice temperature to run in. Course: I went […]

Race Recap – Vitality London 10,000

If you are a regular reader, or follow me on social media, you will know that I didn’t know (remember) that I was running this race until about 2 weeks ago. I wasn’t looking forward to it too much, but I went and the result was unexpected! Date: Monday 30th May 2016 – Bank Holiday Monday, what else would you do with an extra day off! Time: 10am – A nice start time, meaning that the alarm didn’t have to be set for silly o’clock, but after an awful nights sleep on an inflatable Weather: It was actually really chilly and windy, when I arrived at […]

Race Recap – Wings For Life World Run – Cambridge

So after writing my post yesterday about What’s Next?, I somehow ended up taking part in a race yesterday! View this post on Instagram I seemed to have signed myself up to a race this morning @wflworldrun it's going to Be a hot one ☀️☀️☀️ #UKRunChat A post shared by Ruth – Runner 🇬🇧 (@rularuns) on May 8, 2016 at 12:19am PDT One of my club mates had signed up to this with her sister a while back, and in conversation on Thursday after run club she had said that her sister was ill and wasn’t sure she would […]

London Marathon 2016 – I love this race!

I always look forward to writing this post, and then sit down to re-live the day and find it so hard. There are just NO words to describe running the London Marathon. It’s the marathon of all marathons (how can I say that, when I have only ever run London???) but I know it’s the one all runners want to experience at least once and I think it’s amazing! I was slightly nervous this year, as last year had been so bad, I felt this was make or break in terms of whether I liked marathons and if I would […]

Race Recap – Kingston Breakfast Run

So my final 20-miler of this London Marathon training cycle, coincided nicely with the Kingston Breakfast Run 20 mile event, and as I was staying in the London area the same weekend, it seemed rude not to enter! The event is organised Human Race, and as with all of their events, this one did not disappoint! Date: Sunday 3rd April 2016 Time: 8am start. Yes it is an early start,  and forcing porridge down you at 6am isn’t pleasant, but it is nice that the run doesn’t take up your whole day! Early morning porridge can only mean one thing! […]

IAAF Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships.

When it was announced that there was a masses race on as part of the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff, I signed up quickly. Who doesn’t want to run in the World Championships!!?? So, here’s what I thought about them: Date: Saturday 26th March 2016. When I originally booked this race, I didn’t actually realise it was Easter weekend, and I know I wasn’t the only one that kept thinking it was on the Sunday! It’s seems weird running on a Saturday! Time: 2:10pm. Most races take place in the morning, so I felt a little bit lost all […]

Silverstone half marathon – Race Review 2016

Lots of my RunMND group was signing up for Silverstone half marathon, but for some reason, I didn’t. I think I had entered lots of races in a short space of time, and my bank balance was telling me no! Then I got an email from the MNDA that said that I could have one of their places for a drastically reduced price. At the same time, I saw how many MND runners were going, so I signed up. It’s always so much nicer to run events with friends! My training plan said that I needed to run 18 miles […]
